"Wicked" is a whimsical and witty show on Broadway, based on the best-selling novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" written by Gregory Maguire. The novel is a sharp, entertaining spin on the classic story of "The Wizard of Oz," told from the point of view of the original tale's antagonist.
"Wicked" follows Elphaba, the woman who would become the Wicked Witch of the West, and pays particular attention to her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. However, conflicting interests and beliefs, exacerbated by the fact that both woman seek the affection of the same man, draw the witches apart, and ultimately cast Elphaba in a wicked, negative light.
"Wicked" the musical has its Broadway debut on October 30, 2003. Since then, it has blossomed into a cherished, entertaining show.
